DAY 7- DAY 3 SILVERSEA SPIRIT - SEA DAY

As we had mentioned, last evening we will dine at La Terrazza for dinner.  At night La Terrazza goes from serving buffet breakfast and lunch to serving Italian Cuisine tableside.

For those of you who know us, you know that we love to dress up.  On casual nights Keith still normally wears a sports jacket.  With that said on Formal nights on board Silversea you have the option of dressing in formal attire or at certain restaurants you could dine in informal attire.  Since this cruise only featured one formal night, we decided a few weeks ago not to take formal attire just so we were not taking outfits and even shoes for one evening so that was the reason we chose La Terrazza for dinner.

In fact, we added this reservation at that time assuming that the first night after embarkation would be formal night.  We had one other reservation at this restaurant for later in the cruise and decided that we would decide after dining here for the first time whether or not we would return.  We do want to note that when we dined at La Terrazza on Silver Shadow this restaurant was not one that worked for us very well in terms of the preparation of the cuisine.  With that said, we do not believe in rushing to judgment after just eating somewhere on board a ship one time.

Well, we should not judge one restaurant based on one visit because we thoroughly enjoyed last nights dinner.  Everything was terrific from the ambience of the restaurant, to the service, to the cuisine, to the wine.  Bravo.

Later in the evening, there was a performance which featured music of the sixties including our favorite group The Beatles along with music from other performances such as Dusty Springfield and the Rolling Stones.

Seas were relatively calm last evening so we slept very well.  It is very quiet so we don’t hear anyone on walking by the room.  All good.

Before breakfast, Keith worked out at the Fitness Center.

We had breakfast in our room again as we had done yesterday.  As we mentioned, on our first Silversea cruise we always had breakfast at the breakfast buffet a La Terrazza but this time around we are having it in our room.  When we first started cruising we would almost always have breakfast in the dining room of any cruise line we sailed.  Around 2007 we started to have breakfast at the buffets such as the Lido Deck on Crystal Serenity but by a few weeks into the 2008 World Cruise on Serenity we decided to have a quiet breakfast in our room.  We do keep our breakfast simple so that is part of the reason why we just eat in the room.

Today is the first of two sea days on this voyage with the last sea day the day before we disembark.   We took advantage of the sea day to explore the rest of the ship that we had not yet visited, including the on board shops.

The morning featured a lecture about Mexico and Central American including population and migration.  In the afternoon the same destination lecturer, Dr Philip Martin spoke about the Caribbean.

There were talks given in the morning and afternoon related to shopping such as the talk given about Port Shopping by Philip, (not to be confursed with Dr. Philip) as well as talks given about Gms and Diamonds.

There were some other activities including team trivia, blackjack tournament and martini tasting.

After breakfast we both were going to workout at the Fitness Center but all of the treadmills were taken which Anne Marie prefers so the two of us walked outside on the top deck.  The weather was nice and it gave us a nice feel for not only that deck but the pool deck below.  We ended up walking an hour.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie did workout at the Fitness Center and Keith also worked out on both the spin bike and the elliptical machine.  We are including a couple of photos of the spin bike for our friend Wes.

We attended a culinary demonstration, which featured the Executive Chef Grant Chilcott as well as the Head Chef of the Le Champagne Specialty Restaurant.  They were introduced by Cruise Director Moss.  Executive Chef Grant Chilcott is a terrific speaker showing confidence and a wonderful sense of humor.

They made Honey Spiced Duck served with Seet and Sour Cabbage as well as Sautéed Shrimp with Vanilla Sauce and Papaya Salsa. Several waiters were on hand to bring plates of these items to the guests to try.  We didn’t have any but the aroma from their cooking was great.

A short while after the demonstration we had lunch at La Terrazza.  We each made a nice salad entrée.  The restaurant was fairly quiet as many guests were likely eating outside.

We are going to sound like a broken record by we each worked out again at the Fitness Center.  Keith worked out on the Elliptical Machine and Anne Marie worked out on the Treadmill.

Later in the afternoon we finished watching a movie we had started on the interactive television which was the latest Mission Impossible Movie from 2015.

This evening we will dine at the Seishin Japanese Specialty Restaurant for our first visit there.

  1. I wish I were with you on this cruise. Cheryl and I just disembarked from the 17 day Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale cruise the morning before you boarded. For dinner yesterday we made both the Salmon with Pickled Ginger and Lemongrass, and the Risotto that Chef Chillicott demonstrated last week, and they were delicious.
